NRA Home Firearm Safety- Required for MA LTC/FID

11/15/24: While MA recently passed sweeping new gun regulations, this class DOES qualify residents to apply for their MA Licence to Carry. *Important note* Any resident who applies for their LTC after 08/01/2024 will need to take a new gun safety course prior to renewal in six years. This new expanded class has not yet been created or approved - First Circle Safety will offer the updated course once it is made available. Taking this class now will allow you to apply for the license, however you will also have to take the new class prior to renewal.

01/24/26: The updated training class will become mandatory April 2, 2026; any new applications after that date will need to take the updated course. Unfortunately the Commonwealth HAS NOT YET RELEASED this class. As soon as it is released, FCS will transition to that class format. This course (NRA Home Firearm Safety) is still certified as LTC-007, meeting the current requirements for MA License to Carry (LTC) and Firearms Identification Card (FID) however it appears it will not allow new applicants after 4/2/26. It is imperative that you immediately apply for your license as soon as you receive the certificate to avoid being denied.

Non-shooting course teaches students the basic knowledge, skills, and explains the attitude necessary for the safe handling and storage of firearms and ammunition in the home.

This is a four-hour course for safe gun handling that is conducted in the classroom only. Students are taught NRA’s three rules for safe gun handling; primary causes of firearms accidents; firearm parts; how to unload certain action types; ammunition components; cleaning; care; safe storage of firearms in the home; and the benefits of becoming an active participant in the shooting sports. Students will receive the NRA Home Firearm Safety handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Basic Firearm Training Program brochure, course completion certificate. Additional time is set aside in a small classroom session to address individual student needs and questions.

This course is approved for the Massachusetts firearm “License To Carry” as well as “Firearms Identification Card”.
